STROKE & BRAIN INJURY THERAPY
Research showed that language skills improved significantly in 85% of the stroke patients after the intensive speech therapy,
and those improvements were sustained for six months.
Stroke Speech Therapy includes:
understanding what other people are saying on the video
speaking in full sentences
adapting
to new social situations
improving memory skills
understanding written language
sharing interests with other people
communicating
independently in social situations e.g cafe
Why is Stroke Therapy Important
A stroke can be so severe that it causes temporary or permanent paralysis and impairs memory and cognitive functioning. Part of what these side effects can impact the most is a stroke patient's speech and communication capabilities.
Although it can be scary to face everyday activities without the ability to express thoughts and emotions easily or understand others, there is a way for patients to recover speech after a stroke through speech therapy.
Following a fall and suffering a brain injury, you may experience word-finding difficulties, frustration with remembering information, and impairment in communicating with others in everyday situations. You may also experience loss of literacy skills e.g the ability to read and write.
With careful planning, Bev assesses what your goals are for the future in terms of communication, memory, and literacy skills. Together we work to achieve those skills so you can become more independent and feel more confident in communicating your needs.
Strategies include:
role-play,
self-management techniques,
video/TV programs,
narrative therapy,
computer apps,
auditory memory tasks,
repetitive speech tasks,
articulation therapy,
literacy tasks &
finding alternative means of communication .

Are Assessments Formal & Standardized?
